We are so excited about our Handwriting Works!!!! We get to offer children ages, 4 ½ to 7 years of age, a play and instructional based learning opportunity working with movement, materials, colors, textures, and creative writing tools to facilitate pencil grasp, finger strength and handwriting skills.
Wether your child needs a little extra practice on handwriting or reminders on how to hold their pencil, we will work on it!!! At our Handwriting Works!! camp, your child will be free to explore and enhance their fine motor coordination and visual-motor skills while having fun! Handwriting is such a necessary skill for forming and organizing thoughts and then communicating those thoughts and ideas. We love technology, but not when it gets in the way of children being able to develop and refine their fine motor coordination, visual skills and strength. Being able to write neatly and legibly in a timely manner is still such an important skill that is critical in supporting academic success and self-confidence. And handwriting will always be a necessary life skill!
After you decide you would like to sign up, give us a call and we will get to work! We will send you registration documents to fill out and ask you to be part of the quick and easy evaluation process. At home, you will video the things we need your child to do, provide us with your child’s writing sample and email it all back to us, two weeks before camp starts. Once we get to take a look, we will know exactly what areas to work on and then place your child in just the right group. Groups are small and individualized. When we form them, we carefully consider age, strengths and challenges, and abilities. We have found that Handwriting and Learning Without Tears® is a fantastic approach to learning how to form letters and our experienced occupational therapists creatively incorporate this program, along with other sensory based approaches at camp. These activities, based in sensory integration theory, will also improve core strength, postural control, and head, neck and eye muscle coordination.
Groups are guided by our lovely OTs, here at TherapyWorksLA. You do not already have to be a client of TherapyWorksLA to participate, however, space is limited, so call now to sign up!! Handwriting Works!! camp is from 9 -12:00. We also provide the option to do early drop off at 8:30 and late pickup at 1pm.
